BROKERS IN THE NEWSThe media provides a great deal of information on what is happening in the investment industry. At times they provide extensive coverage as they did with the Bre-X scandal dubbed by some as the "scam of the century" and later the RT Capital scandal which resulted in a published apology from the Royal Bank's CEO. At other times the media are strangely silent. This was the case with the trial in Ottawa when two investors took Nesbitt Burns to court over Bre-X. The first day was covered by the Ottawa press, but this was followed by an amazing silence regarding a major brokerage firm in court related to the "scam of the century". SIPA provides links to major news media. Many of these websites contain search mechanisms that enable you to access archived articles. Reference libraries maintain archives of newspapers and some will offer a search service for a fee. So if you have a problem with a specific firm or broker you may wish to invest in some research. SIPA also maintains an archive of some articles related to brokerage firms which may be made available to members upon request.
